About
TIAW (The International Alliance for Women) is a charitable foundation. TIAW is unrelated to and not the same organization as IAW (International Alliance of Women Equal Rights – Equal Opportunities).
who we are
TIAW is for businesswomen who wish to not only network and join together to help each other but also to help those in need.
Around the world, women experience non-existent to very low levels of asset ownership, formal sector employment, decision making power and economic opportunity and earning than men. These gaps constrain economic growth and development. TIAW members fund and support our signature program: Micro Credit. Since 2000, TIAW members have capitalised over 110 ‘Village Banks’ in more than 24 developing countries – providing the seed money for women to start their own micro-businesses. These banks and our other investments in programs or initiatives designed to support women’s financial empowerment have helped these women lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty.
In conjunction with partners such as FINCA: Fighting Poverty with Microfinance and Social Enterprise), Grameen America  and CUFA (www.cufa.org.au) we fund support services to women entrepreneurs to ensure that their businesses are sustainable and that they, their businesses and their communities do not just survive, but thrive
The annual TIAW World of Difference Awards – recognise up to 100 women (and men) around the world whose efforts have advanced the economic empowerment of women locally, regionally or worldwide.
History
Celebrating its 39th anniversary in 2019, TIAW was founded in 1980 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA as the National Alliance of Professional and Executive Women’s Networks, and grew from a small but passionate group in the USA, to a worldwide organisation group of professional women who united to support the economic empowerment and advancement of women.
TIAW is international, representing women and networks from all continents.
