Engage is the leading charity for promoting engagement and participation in the visual arts.
Through advocacy, research, and training we help ensure the quality, inclusivity, and relevance of engagement and participation opportunities across the UK.
We are a UK-wide organisation with Wales and Scotland-based activities led through Engage Cymru and Engage Scotland.
Engage was established as a membership organisation in 1989 and currently holds a membership of over 700 beneficiaries.
Engage is supported by Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales and Creative Scotland, and by charitable foundations.
We recognise the vital role that Engage plays in supporting and developing the gallery education sector. At a time when many education teams in galleries are under threat, whilst the need for support for the arts in schools is ever-increasing, Engage provides essential CPD, networking and leadership for colleagues across the UK.

Our work
We achieve this through:
Training the workforce
Our training and events disseminate the latest sector research and policy, providing affordable opportunities for colleagues to develop inclusive and relevant practice.
Diversifying the workforce
The cross-arts Extend leadership programme supports progression for engagement and participation colleagues who are currently underrepresented.
Initiatives across the UK developed with key partners create accessible careers pathways for those experiencing barriers to progression.
Profiling members’ practice
We use our platform to share members work and case studies through our events, website and social channels such as Sharing Space, the Engage Journal, toolkits, briefing notes and research findings.
Supporting an active and engaged network
Engage enables members to share ideas, experience and resources online and in person, to receive support and advice on practical and professional issues and stay up-to-date with sector news and opportunities.
