About
Creative Generation is a values-forward, global collective that believes youth create change.
As artists, educators, administrators, researchers, storytellers, and activists, we collaborate with young creatives and those who cultivate their creativity to take local actions towards global change.
In alignment with our organizational values and commitments, we co-create projects that build capacity within individuals and organizations and support field-wide learning in pursuit of a more just world.
MISSION
Creative Generation collaborates with young creatives and those who cultivate their creativity to take local actions towards global changes in pursuit of a more just world.
VISION

GOALS
-
Empowering young creatives and their communities, by providing a hub for stories, resources, and opportunities.
-
Producing new and honoring existing forms of knowledge and ways of knowing, while dismantling systemic barriers to sharing and learning.
-
Expanding definitions of and pathways to leadership, through unique learning communities.
-
Activating people and projects, by redistributing resources of money, time, and expertise.
HISTORY
Creative Generation began as a research initiative in April 2019 exploring the language used to describe the outcomes of arts and cultural education. Upon completion of the first study, the scope of our research expanded globally to understand how arts and cultural education can enable young people to lead social change.
Future projects unveiled evidence of a clear need for field-wide paradigm shifts in pedagogies, organizational practices, public policies, and leadership pathways within the intersectional sectors of culture, education, and social change. So, Creative Generation — the organization —began to formally organize in October 2019, receiving its status as a Public Benefit Corporation, registered in Washington, D.C. USA, in January 2020.
Since then, in conjunction with numerous collaborators and co-conspirators around the world, Creative Generation has produced global messaging campaigns, conducted original research, published extensively, and supported programs and people leading transformative creative projects worldwide.
Creative Generation believes that youth create change.
What is the Creative Generation?
The Creative Generation – or Gen C for short – is a term taken from consumer marketing, used to describe an intergenerational group of people share common creative capabilities:
-
creative thinking,
-
cultural consciousness,
-
connectivity, and
-
concern for community.
They employ their creative capabilities to catalyze social transformation towards the goal of thriving communities and a more just world.
Values
The team at Creative Generation believes that how we do our work is just as important as the work itself. As a collective, we are guided by our values and commitments within each and every project we pursue.
Centering Creativity and Curiosity
We encourage creativity and curiosity both within our processes and as outcomes from our work.
Pursuing Justice
We adopt a justice-orientation – grounded in anti-racist, queer, indigenous, feminist, and restorative justice approaches – for our work.
Stewarding Youth Power
We know that young people are inherently powerful agents of change and we strive to be responsive to and supportive of their leadership.
Fostering Intergenerational Collaborations
We approach every project through an intergenerational lens, through meaningful and reciprocal relationships.
Honoring Diversity and Enabling Radical Inclusion
We recognize the past and commit to taking radical action, both internally and externally, to deconstruct systems of oppression and exclusion.
Recognizing Our Privilege
We acknowledge our individual and organizational privilege and approach our work with humility, patience, and generosity.
Investing Resources Strategically
We believe that resources are not equitably distributed and work to redistribute time, money, and expertise accordingly.
Operating Transparently
We understand that collaborations thrive in open and honest environments and we strive to create spaces for our team, collaborators, and community to hold us accountable.
Valuing Process over Product
We value people over profit, process over productivity, and quality over quantity.
Inspiring Joy
We seek to find joy in the projects and relationships we develop through our work.
Commitments
Creative Generation is a values-forward arts service organization focused on capacity building and learning.
-
We commit to being values-forward in our work, enabling our values to drive our actions.
-
We commit to co-create the sustainable capacities within individuals, teams, organizations, and collectives needed to achieve their objectives, ultimately making our role redundant.
-
We commit to transparency, documentation, and distribution of how and what we learn: we believe that insights uncovered from collective work are vital knowledge to enable the communal progress of our field.
-
We commit to acting in service to our stakeholders and the broaders fields within which we work.
The Campaign for a Creative Generation is a global campaign working to ensure that the next generation reaches their full potential to solve society’s greatest challenges. With intergenerational leaders from around the world, the Campaign is dedicated to inspiring, connecting, and amplifying the work of individuals and organizations committed to cultivating the creative capacities of young people.
Each year, the Campaign identifies a theme, which is shared among partners around the globe. Partners receive monthly calls to action, which contribute to a movement being built in communities around the world.
We recently launched a new campaign: Creativity for Good.
This campaign aims to share the stories, experiences, and projects led by young creatives applying their creativity for the social good. As part of the Campaign for a Creative Generation this unifying campaign will bring together individuals and organizations around the work who share a dedication to inspiring, connecting, and amplifying the work of young creatives and those dedicated to their creative development.
Building on the success of our previous campaigns – #KeepMakingArt, International Arts Education Week, and Arts & Cultural Education is a Fundamental, Civil, and Human Right – the Creativity for Good campaign will provide monthly actions that individuals an organizations may take to build a movement to change the narrative, inspire action, and connect young creatives who apply their creativity for the social good. Past campaigns have reached millions of people all around the globe – this campaign will do the same.
Additionally, we have partnered with Untitled by TLNT to provide young creatives (and their educators) with socially-focused creative opportunities and educator resources to motivate and engage young creatives around the world to apply their creativity for social good. The Untitled platform provides students and schools the opportunity to work directly on live creative briefs, set by global brand partners. The platform includes learning and curriculum-related materials, inspiration, workshops and mentoring opportunities.
You are invited to participate in the campaign and encouraged to sign up here. Throughout 2021, we will send monthly actions for you or your organization to participate in the campaign. It never costs money, and don’t worry, we never sell your information. Join us!
