ABOUT US
Ashinaga provides financial support and emotional care to young people around the world who have lost either one or both parents. With a history of more than 55 years, our support has enabled more than 110,000 orphaned students to gain access to higher education.
From 2002, we expanded our activities internationally, with our first office abroad in Uganda. Since then, we have established new offices in Senegal, the US, Brazil, the UK, and France to support the Ashinaga Africa Initiative.

OUR WORK
Ashinaga offers a range of support for students who have lost one or both parents, as well as students who have a parent suffering from a physical or mental disability that prevents them from working.
Ashinaga started as an organization supporting students domestically. In 2002, it shifted its support overseas, opening its first office in Uganda. In 2014, the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) came to fruition. The AAI supports talented students across the African continent, providing them with quality education, career guidance, and leadership development.
A Comprehensive System of Support
Ashinaga support is divided into three main fields: access to education, emotional support, and empowerment. These fields apply to all of our activities in Japan and sub-Saharan Africa, including the AAI.
OUR WORK IN AFRICA
Since 2002, Ashinaga has expanded its support to the African Continent. While the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) focuses on the whole continent, Ashinaga runs local programs to support the community in Uganda and Senegal.
-
Ashinaga Africa Initiative
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is an international leadership program that cultivates the next generation of leaders to contribute to the development of sub-Saharan Africa.
-
Local Program in Uganda
The Ashinaga Uganda Rainbow house has been supporting disadvantaged youth in Nanasana with access to all levels of education for the past 20 years.
-
Local Program in Senegal
Ashinaga Senegal supports young Senegalese students through the Taxawu Jàng program, empowering students with academic and professional training.
OUR WORK IN JAPAN
For more than half a century, Ashinaga has provided orphaned students in Japan with financial support and emotional care to access quality education. With offices in five cities across Japan, Ashinaga has supported over 110,000 students domestically.
- Educational Support
Ashinaga provides financial support and guidance for students to continue their studies and access quality education. We believe education is the key to empower young leaders.
-
Emotional Support
Ashinaga provides emotional support to children and students to overcome the challenges of their pasts. This is done through a network of experts and a community of peers. We also played a central role in the disaster response in Japan, like the earthquake in Kobe in 1995, and in Tohoku in 2011.
-
Research & Advocacy
A key part of Ashinaga’s work is understanding the academic and financial challenges orphaned students face. Our research then becomes the basis for the support we provide as well as what we campaign for.
