About
AmplifyChange launched in 2014 as a project by a consortium led by MannionDaniels with the African Women’s Development Fund and Global Fund for Women. In early 2020, AmplifyChange registered as an independent not-for-profit organisation. With continued shrinking civil spaces, SRHR assaults, and the gendered pandemic effect, civil society organisations need support to advocate for SRHR more than ever.
Most of our grants (89%) are small grants to small groups, and we have other grant types available for them to form coalitions. The majority of our grants are based in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and our reach also extends to the Middle East and Latin America. We have identified 25 countries that are most off-track on the AmplifyChange priorities and we do not want these countries to be overlooked. We call these ‘not-to-be-missed countries’ (NTBMC) and currently 39% of our grants have gone to ‘not-to-be-missed’ countries. 97% of AmplifyChange grants are implemented in countries where civic space is rated as Closed, Repressed, or Obstructed by CIVICUS monitor.
We are a challenge fund – we accept applications on a competitive basis through scheduled funding rounds. We have an independent and transparent process to assess applications. All applicants aim to empower young people, men and women to realise their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Our Theory of Change
AmplifyChange wants to see transformative change in the improvement of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The pathways to change are depicted in our Theory of Change diagram.
We ask all grantees to measure and report on their progress against the five AmplifyChange outcomes.
We focus our grant funding on where the needs are greatest
Advocacy takes a long time, but we have already seen the positive impact of our grantee partners’ work. Some grantee partners change the policies and laws governing sexual and reproductive health and rights in their country. Other grantee partners transform social norms and provide support to those who are the most vulnerable – like child brides, or people living with disabilities.

Our data showcases the spread of who, where and what we fund. The figures represent the impact since 2014 of both the consortium-led AmplifyChange fund and the independent AmplifyChange organisation. We are achieving our benchmarks and report to our Board on these regularly.
We have successfully funded small civil society groups. The majority of our grants are to small organisations with less than EUR500,000 annual budget.
We are reaching Southern-based organisations. Mechanisms like the Partnership grant strengthen solidarity and linkages between civil society groups working on the same topic in the same region.
We support grantee partners to build stronger, more inclusive movements for change. Building connectivity across our grant types creates and sustains long-term social transformation.
